Fur seal’s surgery to be shown on aquarium’s new social media series
Connecticut-based Mystic Aquarium’s northern fur seal Ziggy Star is recovering from surgery to treat hydrocephalus. The surgery, performed at Tufts University’s Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine, will be featured on the premiere of the aquarium’s new Facebook series, “Aquarium Rehab,” which tells the stories of animals and the professionals who care for them.

Alternative medicine treatments such as acupressure, acupuncture, massage and aromatherapy are becoming more mainstream in veterinary care, and veterinarians say pet owners should work with trained practitioners and avoid home remedies found on the internet. Offering alternative therapies is “simply enlarging your horizons and the array of things you can offer to your patients,” said holistic veterinarian Barbara Hodges.
